The National Service Acts for military conscription ran from 1939 to 1963. The post WW11 call-up 1945 to 1963 resulted in over 2 million young men between the ages of 18 and 21 serving between 2 and 3 years in the armed forces. They saw service in 46 different countries throughout the world during this time due to military conflict approx 400 were killed in action and many thousands injured, many died from wounds and tropical discease in later years.
